The traditional boxing day sales hold absolutely no interest for the die-hard yachties among us. We're all scouring the harbor for a view of our favourite contestant in this world-class race.

About the race

Course: From the start on Sydney Harbour, New South Wales, the fleet travels 628 nautical miles south in the Tasman Sea, down the south-east coast of Australia, crossing eastern Bass Strait to sail down the east coast of the island state of Tasmania across Storm Bay and up the Derwent River to the finish line in Hobart.

Start: 1300 hours on Sunday 26 December 2010. A two line simultaneous start will occur with both lines laid just north of Shark Island (near Steele Point).

NINGALOO'S first whale shark of 2011 has been spotted off the coast of Exmouth, hailing the early start of the annual whale shark season.
